Aadhaar has been mandated to be linked with a number of identity proofs and payment modes to establish the individual identity of every citizen by the Government of India. Linking of the Aadhaar has helped in canceling over three crores of fake and duplicate ration cards which have helped in saving over 17,000 crores approximately every year.
Also, linking Aadhaar Card with various other important documents has helped in preventing national security threats to India by identifying the criminals, fraudsters and other such mischief doers using fake identities; also helping in preventing identity theft.
The aim of introducing the Aadhaar card was to disentangle the multiplicity of accounts to have one regular instrument of character. The point to note here is that the process of linking Aadhaar cards doesn’t take more than 5 minutes. The following are the ways in which Aadhaar can be with Voter ID, Mobile Number, Ration Card, and PAN.

How to link your Aadhaar with your Ration Card?
You can link your Aadhaar to your ration card in the following two ways
1. Online process to link your Aadhaar with your Ration Card
Though the following has been planned by the government, the option for linking aadhar to the ration card has not yet been brought on the website. This is due to the fact that while obtaining ‘smart card’ aka the ‘smart ration card’, the card comes with a built-in attachment to Aadhaar. However it is to be noted that, to obtain a ‘smart card’, one has to own an Aadhaar.
STEP 1: Visit the official aadhar linking website and click ‘Start Now’.
STEP 2: Enter the required details like their name, address, etc.
STEP 3: Under the ‘Benefit’, choose the ‘Ration card’ option.
STEP 4: On redirection, enter the important details such as ration card number, Aadhaar number, email address, and mobile number. Post submission, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter that in your form.
STEP 5: On successful verification of the details by the respective officials, your Aadhaar card will be linked to your profile.
2. Offline process to link your Aadhaar with your Ration Card
Following is the offline process to link your Aadhaar with the Ration Card,
STEP 1: Carry the following documents to the center,
- Photocopy of all your family members’ ration cards and Aadhaar cards.
- Photocopy of your bank passbook; in case your Aadhaar is not linked with your bank account card.
- A couple of recent passport-sized photos of the head of their family.
STEP 2: Obtain an application form from the nearest ration office.
STEP 3: Submit the duly filled application form with the above-mentioned documents.
STEP 4: On successful verification of the documents and the application, your Aadhaar will be successfully linked to your ration card.
How to link your Aadhaar with your Voter ID?
You can link your Aadhaar to your ration card in the following ways,
1. Online process to link your Aadhaar with your Voter ID
STEP 1: Visit the National Voter Service Portal (NVSP).
STEP 2: Enter your details such as name, date of birth, father’s name, state, district, etc and click on search. If your details match with the government database, the same will appear on the screen.
STEP 3: On the left side of the screen, click on the ‘Need Aadhaar Number’.
STEP 4: On the popup, submit the required details, that is, registered email address, Aadhaar number and voter ID number and click on submit.
STEP 5: On successful verification, a message is displayed saying your Aadhaar has successfully been linked to your voter ID.
2. Offline process to link your Aadhaar with your Voter ID
STEP 1: Visit their nearest booth center and obtain an application to link your Aadhaar to your voter ID.
STEP 2: Submit the duly filled application at the center.
STEP 3: On successful verification, your Aadhaar will be successfully linked to your voter ID.
3. Linking your Aadhaar with your Voter ID via phone call
STEP 1: Dial the number 1950 during the weekdays, between the times of 10 AM to 5 PM.
STEP 2: Provide the required details.
STEP 3: On successful verification, your Aadhaar will be successfully linked to your voter ID.
4. Linking your Aadhaar with your Voter ID via SMS
Send an SMS to the service number 166 or 51969 in the following format
<EPIC_number><aadhaar number>
How to link your Aadhaar with your Mobile Number?
As per the Supreme Court, it is mandatory to link your Aadhaar number with your phone number. You can link your Aadhaar to your mobile number in the following ways,
1. Linking your Aadhaar with your Mobile Number via SMS
STEP 1: Dial 14546 from your registered mobile number.
STEP 2: Choose your nationality.
STEP 3: Give consent for the re-verification of your Aadhaar by pressing 1.
STEP 4: Enter your Aadhaar number and confirm the same by pressing 1.
STEP 5: An OTP is generated on your registered mobile number.
STEP 6: Give consent to the operator and provide your name, photo, date of birth from the UIDAI database.
STEP 7: Your last 4 digits of their registered mobile number will be read out by the IVR. If correct, enter the received OTP and press 1 to complete the process.
2. Linking your Aadhaar with your Mobile Number via visiting the nearest store/ retailer.
STEP 1: Visit the nearest telecom operator’s store or outlet along with a self-attested copy of your Aadhaar card.
STEP 2: Provide your mobile number to which Aadhaar has to be linked; following which an OTP will be sent to the same number.
STEP 3: Provide the same to the executive for successful verification and your fingerprints.
STEP 4: On successful verification of details, a confirmation from the telecom operator will be received on your registered number
STEP 5: Respond ‘y’ to complete the process of e-KYC.
How to link your Aadhaar with your Bank Account?
You can link your Aadhaar with your bank account in the following ways,
1. Linking your Aadhaar with your Bank Account via Net Banking
STEP 1: Log in to your bank account via net banking and click on the ‘View or Update Aadhaar Card Details’.
STEP 2: Enter the required details and check twice before submitting the same.
STEP 3: Upon verification of the details by the bank, you will be notified of the same on your registered mobile number.
2. Linking your Aadhaar with your Bank Account via ATM
STEP 1: Visit your nearest ATM, swipe your ATM card and enter the 4-digit PIN.
STEP 2: In the ‘Services’ menu, choose the ‘Registration’ option followed by the ‘Aadhaar Registration’ option.
STEP 3: Choose the type of account, enter your Aadhaar Number and click ‘Ok’.
STEP 4: On successful verification, your Aadhaar will be successfully linked to your voter ID
How to link Aadhaar with your PAN?
You can link your Aadhaar with your PAN in the following ways,
1. Online process to link your Aadhaar with your Ration Card - Income Tax E-Filing Website
If you file your tax returns, then your PAN is already linked to your Aadhaar. However, you can check the same by entering your credentials on the official income tax filing government website, followed by the option ‘Link Aadhaar’.
If your Aadhaar is already linked to your PAN you will receive a message saying, ‘Your PAN is already linked to Aadhaar number XXXXXXXXX’.
If you are a non-registered user, follow the steps to link your Aadhaar with your Ration Card
STEP 1: Visit the www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option given on the left pane.
STEP 2: Enter your details and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.
STEP 3: In the case of mismatch an OTP is required which will be sent to your registered mobile number.
STEP 4: Following the successful verification, your Aadhaar will be linked to your PAN.
2. Linking your Aadhaar with your PAN via SMS
You can link your Aadhaar to PAN by sending SMS to either 56161 or 567678 in the following format
UIDPAN<SPACE><12 DIGIT AADHAAR><SPACE><10 DIGIT PAN>
