Association of producers of goods can file a Geographical Indication(GI) application to protect agricultural, natural or manufactured goods that have some qualities that are attributable to its place of origin.

Steps involved in filing application for Geographical Indication


Once you send in a request, a questionnaire will be provided to you to record your details. A checklist of documents will also be provided to you.

You will be required to send scanned copies of the documents to us through email.


You will also be required to send a signed authorization letter to us through courier.

Filing of Geographical Indication Application

The GI expert will draft and file the application for registration of GI along with government fees (Rs. 5,000/-).


After the filing of the application, acknowledgement of filing will be shared with you.

  • Memorandum of Association of the applicant company
  • Resolution to file the GI registration application

  • Copy of the symbol / representation

  • Photographs of product highlighting its special features

  • Geographical area of production of goods along with certified copy of the map

  • Historical records of proof of origin of product

  • Affidavit to show the applicant’s claim to represent the interests of the association of persons or producers of the product

  • Power of attorney to authorize the Attorney / Advocate to represent the applicant at the office of the GI registration
