Atul Johri, JNU Professor has been accused of sexual misconduct is arrested by Delhi Police after questioning him. he has been a part of various administrative bodies and been a vocal advocate of mandatory attendance for students. At least nine women lodged a complaint against professor that he had an explicit habit of making remarks on their clothes and touched them in a bad manner while teaching. An FIR has been lodged by the women for molesting and outraging the modesty of women.
On the allegation, he resigned from his posts but remained to be the mess warden of Chandrabhaga Hostel.
The students are on a protest demanding strict action against the professor. Hundreds of the students came out to the streets of Delhi on Monday to protest against the accused professor. The Union did set off a march to the Vasant Kunj Police Station demanding his arrest. The Police had to fire water cannons to disperse the students on the event of a clash broke between the protesting students and cops. It also became viral on twitter with the hashtag #ArrestJohri.
Swathi Maiwal, Delhi Commission for Women Chief criticized the late action of the Delhi Police to the matter tweeting on Monday that matter of 9 girls being sexually assaulted in a serious matter to be concerned, and called Atul Johri a serious offender. She also expressed her disappointment towards Delhi Police that the arrest is not been made.
In response to the allegation, Johri said that he is being targeted by the left-leaning students, and the girls who have complained have received mail from him on February 27th regarding their irregular attendance in lab.
