Kanpur GST Commissioner Sanskar Singh has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly demanding and taking bribe. Apart from Sanskar Singh three official staff and five private persons have also been arrested. The arrest has been made by the CBI on Saturday morning and an FIR has been registered against the wife of Sanskar Singh.
The complaints of bribery against the Sanskar Singh along with the other officials that they have been demanding and taking bribe from the individuals. The CBI is conducting further investigation into this matter after making the arrests.
The arrest of Kanpur GST Commissioner came in development of an arrest of a senior officer of Commercial Taxes Department by the Andhra Pradesh anti-corruption bureau for owning assets of worth Rs 150 crore in his and his relative’s name. He has been arrested for possessing assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
The assets of Geddapu Lakshmi Prasad are worth Rs 150 crore and are accounted as his prime property. ACB director General P Thakur released a statement that the officer owns an extravagant house which measures around 7000 sq ft in Srikakulam town and a 400 sq yard house site in Guntur. It has been further stated that seven houses in the prime location of Visakhapatnam and Guntur have been found to be registered in the name of Alivelu, wife of Prasad.
Currently, Prasad was serving as a Commissioner (GST) in the office of Chief Commissioner of Commercial Taxes.
