The Delhi HIgh Court ordered has directed the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU), its president Rocky Tussed and other concerned authorities to beautify and clean delhi on swachh bharat lines after the delhi has been defaced because of the DUSU elections. The court has also directed the DUSU to organize public awareness programmes to aware the people that the defacement is punishable with fine and imprisonment of 10 years.

Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal has also stated that it is important to note that the section 78 read with section 82 of the DMRC Act makes the defacement a punishable offence with 10 years of imprisonment. The section 268 and section 290 also make it a punishable offence.

Rocky Tussed has also put forth a suggestion of involving Aga Khan Trust in the clean up drive of the Delhi defacement which has been caused due to DUSU elections before the court.

The court has directed that the clean up drive has to be done on the lines of swachh bharat abhiyan and that there is need of organising awareness programme against defacement. The court suggested that the India Gate and places following in a kilometre radius of Delhi High Court are best suited for organizing awareness programmes.

Advocate Prashant Manchanda who has filed the petition for this clean delhi drive before the Delhi High Court has also suggested that an announcement to be made regarding the punishment for defacing so as to aware the public.

The suggestions given by him include anti-defacement helpline, amending the guidelines of the varsity to incorporate imputations of defacement, barring any candidate found defacing the city from contesting polls, making the offender cough up the cost of restoration etc.
