Rahul Gandhi got sued on a defamatory case by BJP leader Shalabh Mani Tripathi alleging that Rahul Gandhi has made derogatory remarks against PM Narendra Modi during Congress party's national conclave in New Delhi recently, by drawing a similarity between Prime Minister, Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi.

Nirav Modi is the diamond merchant, the main accused of the recently revealed Punjab National Bank scam and Lalit Modi is former IPL Commissioner involved in the IPL scam. A defamatory case can be filed against a person when the person makes such derogatory remark or gesture in public regarding someone which makes the public think and apprehend that such derogatory remarks are true and it hampers the person’s reputation about whom the remarks have been passed.

The Congress party repeatedly says that they are going to raise their voice always against the corruption by the ruling party, and Tripathi further alleged that they have taken Modi’s name synonymous with corruption. Such action by the Congress leader did hurt the sentiment of the BJP members.

It was alleged that in the three day Congress party’s national conclave held on March 16.17 and 18, Rahul Gandhi has compared PM Narendra Modi with Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi. Both Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi are accused of absconding from the country followed by huge scams, PNB scam and IPL scam respectively.

In reply to the accusation, Congress district general secretary Anwar Hussain stated that they shall continue to raise their voice for the issues relating to the country and its citizen. For that purpose, they are even ready to face court cases and to go to jail.
