Delhi High Court in the case of Reckitt & Coleman (Overseas) Limited & Anr. vs Patanjali Ayurved Limited, granted an interim relief to the Plaintiff and restrained the Defendant from airing a commercial for its soap which was found to be disparaging the goodwill of Dettol soap manufactured by Reckitt & Coleman (Overseas) Ltd.

In the advertisement, the Patanjali soap took a dig at the Dettol soap by claiming that their product contains chemicals manufactured by Plaintiff and hence asking the consumers not to use the same mentioned above. Reckitt & Coleman (Overseas) Limited & Anr. have also claimed damages of Rs. 1 Crore.

The court held it to be a fit case for granting interim injuction till the next date of hearing. Till the time, directors, franchisees, employees and representatives have been asked not to issue or telecast or broadcast any advertisement damaging the good will and reputation of the opposite party’s product under the trademark “DETTOL” in any sort of media whether it be digital, electronic or print.

A day earlier, Bombay High Court granted injunction to Hindustan Unilever against Patanjali Ayurved Limited.
