Arguments on Sentencing Lalu in Fodder Scam Heard by CBI Court

The lawyer appearing on behalf of Lalu Prasad Yadav has submitted before the court that Lalu is a patient of diabetes and hypertension and has also undergone a heart surgery. However, lawyers of CBI objected it and said that all the medical facilities are available in the jail and so the maximum sentence should be awarded to all the convicts including Lalu.

The Special CBI Court through video conferencing has heard the arguments in relation to sentence of the Lalu Prasad Yadav and other convicted persons in fodder scam on friday. The lawyer pleaded that leniency should be observed while awarding sentence on the account that Lalu is 70 years old and is suffering from multiple diseases.

The lawyer appearing on behalf of Lalu Prasad Yadav has submitted before the court that Lalu is a patient of diabetes and hypertension and has also undergone a heart surgery. However, lawyers of CBI objected it and said that all the medical facilities are available in the jail and so the maximum sentence should be awarded to all the convicts including Lalu.

The offence for which Lalu is convicted provides for sentence of life imprisonment under section 467 of IPC. The Lalu has been convicted under sections 120B, 420, 467, 468, 471, 477 of IPC and under sections 13(1)(2), 13(1)(C), 13(1)(D) of Prevention of Corruption Act.

The hearing for other convicts was done on thursday and the hearing for sentence will continue on saturday and the quantum of punishment for Lalu and other convicts will be pronounced on saturday after hearing the arguments on saturday.

The punishment will also be pronounced in video conferencing hearing on saturday.
