Important elements of a Will document:

  • Declaration: You need to declare that you are writing the will in a sound mind and with free will.

  • Names of Beneficiaries: Details of the persons among whom your assets are to be divided.
  • Witnesses: Two witnesses would be required to sign the document. Each of the witnesses should have seen the testator signing the Will.

Required Documents

You will have to carry the following documents and bring two witness along on the day of registration:

  • Address proofs (photocopy of any one of the following 5 documents – Passport, PAN card, Voter ID card, Aadhar card, Driving License)
  • 2 passport-size photographs
You along with two witnesses and the lawyer will visit the office of the sub-registrar to sign the Will and get it registered. You will have to pay a nominal registration fees that varies across states.
Upon registration, the registered Will will be provided to you. A copy of the Will shall remain at office of the sub-registrar.
